IMCA Global Profile

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) is the international trade association representing offshore, marine and underwater engineering companies.

It is a respected voice around the world promoting good practice, particularly in the areas of health, safety and environmental standards, quality and efficiency and technical standards. Good communication with our members via a variety of documents, the website and meetings encourages the sharing of experience, ideas and aspirations.

With membership as at June 2008 standing at over 490 companies in more than 50 countries, IMCA has grown fourfold since its establishment in 1995 in terms of both members and geographical spread.

Role and Activities

As a trade association, IMCA exists for the benefit of its members across the marine contracting industry. It has a set of objectives which define the areas in which it works and on which a detailed technical work programme is based.

IMCA provides a wide range of member services. These include publishing good practice guidance, technical reviews; safety promotion materials and other documentation; organising seminars and workshops, briefing sessions and a variety of social and networking events; facilitating the sharing of incident-related information; providing common audit formats to promote efficiency; monitoring and lobbying on regulatory developments; and promoting the industry to a variety of other organisations.

Also in this section you can find details on the history of IMCA plus information on the IMCA logo, including proper use and reproduction.

Structure

IMCA operates with a worldwide focus via a structure of technical committees made up of experts elected from member companies, supported by a small, focused secretariat in London. Click here for more details on our organisational structure.

Two core activities relate to all members - Competence & Training and Safety, Environment & Legislation (SEL). Each member also joins one or more of IMCA's four technical divisions, each covering a specific area of members' own activities.

In addition, four regional sections arrange meetings and facilitate work on issues affecting members in their local geographic areas.

Membership

Membership is open to companies and organisations active in the offshore, marine and underwater engineering industries. Separate categories of membership exist for contractors; suppliers of equipment and services, consultancies, training providers and personnel agencies; and non-voting, corresponding members including oil and gas companies, government agencies and other associations.

Click here for full details on joining the association, including the benefits of membership, member responsibilities and how to apply.

The IMCA Member Directory lists all current members, grouped by category, with regional/divisional filters and including website links where members have requested them
